The Burton Academy

All of our learners must have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. This includes GCSEs and vocational training that caters to their individual needs and is delivered by qualified teachers. This takes into account the National Curriculum, Helping Children Achieve More and Removing Barriers to Achievement, as well as the UK government strategy for Special Educational Needs (SEN).
We also support the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
For KS3 and KS4, the curriculum gives all pupils experience in Mathematics, English, science, ICT and physical education, as well as PSHE, RE and Citizenship to Level 2 at KS4.
The aim of the Academy is to fully reintegrate KS3 learners into mainstream or special school within a specific period of time, as agreed on referral and dependent on individual needs of the learner. (This is typically expected to follow a 12 week assessment and intervention placement.)

The aim of the Academy is to prepare KS4 learners for success in further education, employment and training. Each individual is prepared for year 12 by completing a mixture of core and vocational qualifications, having opportunities to attend work experience placements, engagement in a course at a partner further education college and to receive targeted careers guidance.
Students can follow an academic offer that focuses on GCSEs in all core subjects, alongside up to 4 additional qualifications (GCSE or Btec).
Students who wish to undertake a more vocational offer may be able to take work-based training or work experience, alongside qualifications in English, Maths & ICT.
